The
FairTax Offers Stimulus for Economic Slowdown
Is an
economic stimulus package on the horizon? Will Republicans and
Democrats come together for elimination of the payroll tax and
a capital gains tax cut in the near future?
Reporting
on ABC's "This Week," Cokie Roberts said Sunday that
Lawrence Lindsey, President Bush's chief economic advisor, and
Robert Rubin, former Democratic Treasury Secretary, discussed
last week which taxes would best be cut or changed to provide
economic stimulus. According to Cokie, Lindsey "talked about
corporate taxes" and Rubin said, "If they were
going to do anything, they should maybe stop the payroll tax
or cut into it . . . "
Carrie Kelleher
Ardelean, Vice President of Operations with Americans for Fair
Taxation, agrees with Washington leadership that something needs
to be done to stimulate the economy. "What we really need
is not to be selective, and we should refuse to allow Washington
to choose winners and losers. The FairTax a federal consumption
tax that will replace the entire federal income tax system will
be fair to all Americans and allow everyone to keep 100% of their
paychecks. It will replace the personal, payroll, corporate, self-employment,
capital gains, gift, and inheritance taxes. The FairTax plan will
thereby satisfy many of the current concerns of both parties."
According
to Carrie Ardelean, "The FairTax will stimulate economic
growth and investment. It will generate unprecedented numbers
of new jobs. The FairTax will finally liberate all Americans from
the income tax, and it will put choice and control back into the
hands of every American."
